The monitor of a laptop, |notebook|, or |palmtop| computer is often integrated into the system unit. This is either a hinged monitor attached to the main system, or a display window built into the system itself. The hinged displays can fold over the |keyboard| and are secured by a small clasp, or latch. In this configuration, the hard plastic shell of the case protects the display and keyboard. Most display windows are made with clear plastic, though some are made of glass. Almost all use liquid crystal display (LCD) technology. These displays usually have dials to control brightness and contrast.
